As we decorate the Christmas tree, mail Christmas cards,
bake cookies, gather with friends, we prepare ourselves
for the most festive celebration of the Church Year –
Christ’s birth. Each thing we do adds to the wonderment
and anticipation building towards our festive celebration.
Historically, the Church has called the four weeks before
Christmas, Advent. The word, Advent, comes from the
Latin word adventus – “a coming.” The first advent was
Christ’s birth in Bethlehem. His return is known as the
second Advent.
