DAY CAMP FEATURES
Activities from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Plan for working parents who need to drop children off early and pick up late.
Day Camps are self-contained:
You do NOT LEAVE THE CHURCH PROPERTY EXCEPT FOR MINISTRY PURPOSES.
BENEFITS
- I watched the children begin to take ownership of the building – on Sundays there was a different attitude about being at church between those who attended Day Camps and those who didn’t.
- Non-church kids and their families become comfortable with being on the church property – it was thrilling to then see that comfortableness draw them back on Sunday.
- The children learned they could create their own fun and be satisfied.
Pastoral staff through the week are able to come down and interact with the children
Children develop an intuitive sense they are an important part of the church as they build an informal connection with the church staff.
Non-church kids get to know the Senior Pastor – a key connection to feeling they belong. Imagine Sunday morning as the unchurch family arrives at church and the Senior Pastor greets their child by name …
College Interns run everything
More on this here (will be posting later)
NOT every detail of the week is planned out – though it may look like it on paper.
There are times for the children to make the decisions of what to do/create.
Each day the children wrestle with a different Biblical truth.
A new Bible Verse each day.

Children spend the week creating a Penny Carnival. Friday the neighborhood is invited to come enjoy the Carnival.
Children learn how Christmas is celebrated in four foreign countries. Friday evening is a time of family celebration. A potluck where families are encouraged to bring a taste of their ethnic food; gifts the children made for family members are opened; the entertainment the children prepared is presented.
Serving Our City: Children make cookies in morning and take to Police/Fire station in afternoon.
Serve the Family: children think through what it means to serve their family (how do they deal with grudges) – our actions show our love; they make a gift for each member of their family.
Serving the Elderly: in the morning children create planters they take in afternoon to elderly in a convalescent home.
Serving the Church: caring for God’s house the church, caring for the leader’s of the church, letters of thanks to pastors.
